Quick Trip to Lakes Lugano + Como, Italy

3 nights – June 2020 – family and friends trip

For these locations we were only able to spend a few days there, but we really enjoyed them and in many cases we easily could have spent more time in that spot.

Like the rest of our travel guides, this is not an all-encompassing account of everything we did. We do not want to make a list of ‘Best’ or ‘Must-do’ experiences since we know it depends on your personal preferences. These are only our personal favorites

The Avventura’s Italy Map

Parco San Marco Resort on Lake Lugano – We loved this dog-friendly hotel located on a beautiful property overlooking Lake Lugano. You could choose to swim in the pools or lake, or just relax on the beautiful property. They have lots of activities for the kids (they loved the water skiing the most!). The breakfast was delicious. We may have gone at post-Covid prices, but it was a good value for the amenities and services.

Typical street in Bellagio

Bellagio, Lake Como – This is such a cute quintessential Italian lake town. We spent the first 2 days of our honeymoon here in 2002 and wanted to visit it again since we are so close. From Lake Lugano, we took the ferry across Lake Como rather than driving around. It runs on a regular schedule, with no reservation necessary. Unfortunately, there were no George Clooney sightings but we loved strolling around and having a spritz by the lake.

Cuddling with the famous “Ice” at Ristorante Mella

Ristorante Mella – This is a restaurant just outside of Bellagio where you can enjoy excellent seafood in a cute corner of town and meet Ice, the family’s dog (they all appeared in a Netflix docuseries called Dogs in 2018).

Next time we will save time for a glass of wine at Enoteca Cava Turacciolo, check out the gardens of Villa Melzi, and take the ferry over to the charming little town of Varenna.
